Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is an urban research and academic health sciences campus, with 22 schools and academic units which grant degrees in over 200 programs from both Indiana University and Purdue University.

IUPUI was created in 1969 as a partnership by and between Indiana and Purdue Universities, with IU as the managing partner. With over 29,000 students, IUPUI is the second-largest campus in the Indiana University state wide system.

IUPUI is IU's home campus for state wide programs in medicine, law, dentistry, nursing, health and rehabilitation science, and social work and extends its program offerings through IUPU Columbus.

By the Numbers

  • The IUPUI campus ranks among the top 15 in the country in the number of first professional degrees it confers and among the top seven in the number of health-related degrees.
  • The campus offers more than 200 academic programs - from associate degrees to doctoral and professional degrees.
  • Over 29,000 students attend IUPUI representing 49 states and 122 countries
  • IUPUI alumni account for 85% of Indiana's dentists, half of the physicians, nearly half of the state's lawyers, more than a third of the nurses, and a large percentage of the health and rehabilitation sciences and social work professionals.
  • The campus is just three blocks from the Indiana Government Center, four blocks from Victory Field and the RCA Dome, and adjacent to White River State Park, home of the NCAA National Headquarters, the Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Zoo, and the Eiteljorg Museum

Responsibility


IUPUI's procurement efforts function under a centralized purchasing structure with delegation of authority for all purchases on the Indianapolis, Columbus and the School of Medicine @ the IU Northwest campuses governed by institutional policy mandated by The Trustees of Indiana University. IUPUI assumes no liability for payment of obligations except those incurred in accordance with current purchasing policy and procedures.

Purchasing Authority


Purchasing authority is vested in The Trustees of Indiana University and delegated through the President and the Vice President for Administration to the University Purchasing Departments. By institutional policy, only authorized Indiana University (IUPUI) personnel may commit university funds for goods and services.

The IUPUI Division of Purchasing Services is responsible for the implementation of University Purchasing Policy, management of operational procedures, and the organization of its department. Purchasing authority is defined as the authority to commit university funds for goods or services and all agency powers associated with the business activities.

Throughout the purchasing process, the purchasing department follows local, state, federal statutes and regulations, as well as conducting business by ethical standards as established by the National Association of Educational Buyers.

Competition


An obligation of the procurement effort is to secure timely delivery of quality goods and services for the university at the most cost effective price and to encourage competition while promoting ethical business practices with all parties.

Competitive quotes are solicited in all cases when deemed appropriate by the Purchasing Contract Manager or a viable justification shall be provided to document exceptions.

The solicitation of recognized official quotations is the responsibility of the IUPUI Purchasing Department personnel.
